Touch of God: A Modern Minimalist Residential House

Creating Space and Light in a Compact Design

In an area slightly larger than 33m2, Ming-Chuan Tai, a renowned designer from Taipei City, Taiwan, has transformed a small space into a modern minimalist residential house. With clever division and thoughtful details, this design showcases the perfect balance between form and function.

After passing through the entrance, the first area that catches the eye is the kitchen. Ming-Chuan Tai has ingeniously incorporated a counter that serves both as a cooking space and a bar, maximizing the functionality of the area. The kitchen equipment is carefully chosen to minimize dimensions, creating an illusion of spaciousness in the living room.

The living room is divided from the kitchen by a dark-wooden veneer floor, creating a visual separation while maintaining a sense of continuity. A marbled wall behind the simplistic sofa acts as a base for extending light from the flat-screen TV into the gaps in the wall. Linear beams of light embedded into the wall not only brighten up the space but also add warmth to the cold-tempered marble, reminiscent of life-giving rays of light.

The design extends beyond the living room. The wall that leads towards the master bedroom, guest room, study, and bathroom features a wooden-surfacing with linear cuts, creating a consistent and harmonious façade throughout the residence.

The master bedroom showcases Ming-Chuan Tai's attention to detail. The back plate of the bed incorporates a slanted design, integrating a linear down light with a vertical axis. This design choice emphasizes the theme of "Light" and highlights the intensity of the lighting design with minimal decorations.

Creating a residence of "Light" came with its fair share of challenges. The circular lights, marbled construction, and down lights in the master bedroom bed's back plate pushed the boundaries of traditional lighting beliefs. However, Ming-Chuan Tai's expertise and professional knowledge allowed him to overcome these challenges, ensuring a seamless integration of design and functionality.

The Touch of God design project was completed in May 2018 in Taipei City, Taiwan. With its unique use of space, clever division, and emphasis on light, this modern minimalist residential house has garnered recognition in the design community. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
